 MonolaurX was developed by a practicing surgeon (M.D.) who, after years of exposure to strong disinfecting soaps, developed skin sensitivities to what were supposed to be gentle skin cleansers for surgical and everyday use. To prevent such side effects, the initial idea was to develop a biological, sustainable and safe skin cleanser. 

Monolaurin was investigated as the ideal skin cleansing agent due to its known detergent properties.  Our scientific team performed many laboratory studies, testing numerous compounds and determined that monolaurin had the highest potency compared to other plant-based compounds and its effects were equal to, or better, than that of synthetic detergents.  Its presence in mother's milk indicates its safety and gentleness. 

Monolaurin is derived from coconut oil, so it is readily available, sustainable and the fact that it is found in mother’s milk, tells you that monolaurin is about as natural as it gets. 

The limitation of monolaurin-based skin care products has been the difficulty of obtaining a stable product that is not oil based. Oil based products have limits on absorption, hence limitations on efficacy. Prior monolaurin-based products utilize it as a skin conditioner with no cleaning properties.  Only one water-based monolaurin product has been found, but it contains very high ethanol levels, >50%, which is contraindicated for most skin conditions, and especially not for cold sores, as ethanol aggravates and prolongs healing time.  

After several years of painstaking research, our team has come up with the optimal monolaurin formulation.  The magic of MonolaurX is that it is a water-based serum, that absorbs rapidly.  Extensive testing by our team has shown us that rapid absorption plays a key role in its effectiveness as a cleaning agent on the skin.

 Cleansing the skin has typically relied on synthetic detergents, but these can irritate, especially stressed and sensitive, skin and lips. 

Soaps or detergents can be beneficial as they are known to reduce the severity and duration of viral infections, as well as preventing the spread of an infection. MonolaurX acts as a biologically based detergent that is sourced from nature.  It is metabolized by the body; thus, it does not leave any toxic residue.  Our team has spent several years in developing the optimal water-based formulation with monolaurin for use as a skin cleansing serum.
